The Southwest Karate & Aikido Center was first established in 1997 by Sensei Steve Gancherov. After wining the World Traditional Karate Championshipsin the October of 1994 he decided to go after his next goal, establishing a Karate school where he could develop his vision of a martial arts program.
Incorporating the character aspects of the martial arts, the highest level of physical technique, and years of study and physical training under direct masters of Shotokan Karate. In order to fully realize his goal as an instructor, he also wanted to complete his understanding of the art taking in the various philosophies and history. In order to do so, he extended his learning and also studied Aikido, Iaido and Shaolin Kung Fu, and through this has made his goal a reality.
1994 U.S. Karate Team, Gold Medal Winners
Using history and various martial arts philosophies, Sensei Steve Gancherov created a seamless training program to fulfill his goal of creating a karate school that removes the senseless violence and needless egotism that has become commonplace in our society. He takes the focus of our natural competitive natures by changing them from an external focus to more of an inward focus, teaching students the drive of making oneself better in order to achieve their dreams and aspirations.
Through the teachings of Sensei Steve Gancherov at the Southwest Karate & Aikido Center, students are taught that everybody has brilliance and greatness inside of them, it's just a matter of reaching inside and bringing it to the surface and following that path - realizing their own strengths through the development of character, respect, and humility.
